Our trip to the Hill Country in January of 2007 included what in my mind was to have been a sight-seeing trip only to Enchanted Rock Natural Park, between Llano and Fredericksburg, TX.--but which turned out to be, due to family peer pressure--an actual climb to the summit of the main rock! I did scale the summit once before, several years ago; but apparently the oxygen levels have gotten even thinner at that elevation...
Enchanted Rock is a huge granite dome formation, the largest in Texas (and possibly the U.S. - but I'm not sure of my geological facts here). It really is a wonderful climb (what I remember of it), and a beautiful view going up as well as from the summit. The weather was gorgeous this particular day, and the clouds were putting on a show for us as well. I was able to snap the pictures below before oxygen deprivation set in... Enjoy!
